aboutI have been painting and creating for many years. I grew up in the Hunter Valley of NSW Australia surrounded my large family and lots of animals. I now live with my two sons on the gorgeous Northern Beaches of Sydney. Art is my soul food; my life source. Across time, I have worked in a variety of styles and still enjoy the free spirited throwing of paint in a contemporary expressionist piece as much as I appreciate careful, small brush work. I love a line drawing too. I have won some recognition along the way and have art in notable collections. My most recent works are portraits of my life; subconscious metaphors for my human state. Symbolism and unrestrained colour, along with the juxtaposition of vulnerability and defiance, characterise this series. I enjoy playing with proportion and scale to communicate an attitude or a narrative. The works are a hybridisation of cartooning and illustrative techniques with a fine art finish; a kind of modern mannerism. My art, perhaps with the exception of my animals series, is not about innocuous panels of colour and shape that match the curtains and sofa, nor is it about replicating the physical world in a technically admirable way, but it's about connecting with the human condition and finding an inspired way of communicating what it feels like. It comes from an uninhibited, imaginative place and is offered to move, challenge, entertain and inspire.  |
